Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) allows students to receive recognition for skills and knowledge they have gained through previous training, work experience, or life experience.

Greenfield College recognises that learning can occur in many different environments, including the workplace, previous study, and community activities. Through the RPL process, students may demonstrate that they already possess the competencies required for specific units within a course.

If successful, students may receive credit for those units without needing to complete further training or assessment for them.

Who Can Apply for RPL?

Students may apply for RPL if they have previously gained relevant skills or knowledge through:

  • employment or workplace experience
  • previous education or training
  • professional development activities
  • volunteer work
  • informal or non-formal learning experiences

RPL is available for all units of competency delivered by Greenfield College where sufficient evidence can be provided.

The RPL process generally involves the following steps:

Step 1 – Enquiry

Students contact Greenfield College to discuss their interest in applying for RPL and determine whether they may be eligible.

Step 2 – Application

Students complete an RPL application form and provide evidence demonstrating their competency.

Step 3 – Evidence Review

An assessor will review the submitted evidence and may conduct an interview or practical assessment to verify the applicant’s skills and knowledge.

Step 4 – Assessment Outcome

The assessor will determine whether the evidence provided meets the requirements of the unit of competency.

Students will be informed of the outcome once the assessment process has been completed.

Evidence submitted for RPL must be:

  • valid
  • sufficient
  • authentic
  • current

Examples of evidence may include:

  • resumes or curriculum vitae
  • employment references
  • job descriptions
  • workplace documents or reports
  • certificates from previous training
  • portfolios of work
  • work samples or photographs
  • supervisor verification

Additional evidence or assessment activities may be requested to confirm competency.

Credit Transfer recognises units of competency that students have successfully completed with another Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

If a student has previously completed identical units of competency as part of a nationally recognised qualification, they may be eligible to receive credit for those units.

Credit Transfer reduces the amount of training required to complete the qualification.

To apply for Credit Transfer, students must provide:

  • a certified copy of their academic transcript or statement of attainment
  • evidence that the units completed match the units within the Greenfield College course

The units must be exactly the same unit code and title as those listed in the qualification.

Once verified, the units will be recorded as credit transfer on the student’s academic record.

  • Students are encouraged to apply for RPL or Credit Transfer before commencing their course.
  • RPL and Credit Transfer applications are assessed in accordance with Greenfield College policies and procedures.
  • Fees may apply for RPL assessment.

Students will be advised of any applicable fees before the assessment process begins.
